Finervista help

Using Finervista search

Using Finervista to search for business webcasts is easy.

Just enter any combination of words or phrases in the search box as you would in any general search engine like Google or Yahoo.  Then hit the "Search Webcasts" button.

Finervista will return a list of webcasts most relevant to the search term.  Both Live (Upcoming) and Recorded webcasts will be returned in a single result list ranked by the best match to the search term.  The best-matched webcasts will appear higher on the list.

Finervista combines the webcast date and the search-term relevancy from the webcast desription page to rank the overall results.  In general, the more recent webcasts would appear higher on the list of search results.

You can further refine search results using pull-down menus in the blue bar on top of search results.

Finervista also incorporates many advanced search features to give you more control over search results.

For more search tips, including on advanced search features, please see the following topics below.

  1. Finervista sources

Rather then scour the web for quantity, Finervista search is focused on searching a highly-selected list of webcast sources to insure the highest quality of results.  This list is constantly being grown and refined by Finervista..

  2. Suggested searches

For convenience, Finervista offers a list of suggested terms on common topics in a left-hand box on the homepage.  Clicking on any of these terms will perform a Finervista search on this term.  This list can be changed by Finervista from time to time.

  3. Choosing search terms

Enter any combination of words and phrases in a search box as you would on common web-search engines like Yahoo or Google.

Start with obvious terms.  If you are interested in Webcasts on the topic of sales, enter sales.  Often using multiple terms will produce a narrower but more relevant result.  For example if you are interested specifically in seminars on sales compensation enter sales compensation as your search term.

  4. Capitalization

Finervista search is case insensitive.  You can use either lowercase or uppercase entries for your search terms to get the same results.  Note that in the case of certain special words such as AND and OR, Finervista will apply those as Boolean operators if entered in the uppercase letters.

  5. Automatic AND queries

Finervista uses and AND Boolean operator by default.  This means that, by default, Finervista will return only webcasts whose description contain all terms in the query.  For example a search on server management will return only the results whose description contains both the word server and the word management.  You can change this default by using a Boolean OR operator in a query.

  6. Boolean OR operator

You can change the default AND behavior using a Boolean OR operator in you search.  For example a query server OR management will return webcasts whose description contained either the term server or the term management.  Please note that the term OR must be in all capital letters to be interpreted as a Boolean operator rather then as just a word.

  7. Automatic exclusion of common words

Finervista will ignore certain very common words if used in a query.  There are about 20 or so such words and they include words such as to, from, a, the, on, and (lowercase) etc...  If you use these terms in a query they will be ignored.  For example as search on from sales to marketing will be effectively a search on sales marketing.

  8. Phrase searches

If you wish to search for a webcast whose description contain a specific phrase or an exact combination of words, put quotes around your search terms.  For example, searching for "sales management" (in quotes), will find only webcasts whose description contains this exact phrase in the webcast description.

  9. Negative terms

You can use the "-" operator to exclude a term from a query.  For example a query on sales -management will return webcasts whose description contains the word sales but does not contain the word management.  In other words, any webcast that contains the word management will not be in the results. (But be sure to leave a blank space before the "-" operator.)

  10. Searching for Upcoming (Live) webcasts

Sometimes you maybe interested only in Live webcasts.  Clicking on the link Upcoming underneath the search box will return all such upcoming webcasts and only such webcasts.  More recent webcasts (relative to the search date) will appear higher on the search result.

  11. Featured webcasts

Featured Webcasts are selected weekly by Finervista Management and can change daily or weekly from time to time.

  12. Refining search results

You can refine your search results in a variety of useful ways using combinations of pull-down menus on the top of the search result.

  • Selecting Live (Upcoming) Only will show only the Live webcasts from the current search results
  • Selecting Recorded Only will show only the Recorded webcasts from the current search results
  • Clicking on the From source name in any search result will show only those search results form the list that are from this particular source
  • Selecting Sort by Date from a pull-down menu will display the search results ordered by date, with the furthest date out being first
  • Selecting Sort by Source A>Z from a pull-down menu will sort the search results by the source name in a descending alphabetical order.
  • Selecting Sort by Source Z>A from a pull-down menu will sort the search results by the source name in an ascending alphabetical order.
  13. Searching Titles only

You can focus the search even further by searching only on webcast titles.  If you use the title: operator in front of your search term, Finervista will search for this term only in the webcast title. Often this can help return more focused and relevant search results.  For example, a search on title:security will search only the webcast titles for the results that contain the term security.  Be sure to leave no blank spaces between title: and the search term
